INFORMATION & RULES
- Team roster minimum is 3 girls; maximum is 4 girls per team.
- Players may play on only one team.
- Players must play in their grade-level division.

Standings will be based on:
-W/L/T Record
-Point differential
-Head to head
-Coin toss
Key Gameplay Rules
Court and Ball: Played on half of a standard basketball court to a single hoop. A coin flip will determine who gets the ball first at the start of the game and playoff overtime period. Alternation possession will be used for all jump ball situations.
The "Clear" Rule: Following a defensive rebound including airball or a steal, the offensive team must immediately pass or dribble the ball back behind the 2-point line before attempting to score. If a basket is scored before the ball is taken back, it will result in loss of possession and no points will be awarded.
Check Ball: After any dead ball (e.g., a foul, out-of-bounds, or made basket), the game restarts with a "check," where the offensive player passes the ball to a defender at the top of the key and receives it back to begin play.
The ball will change possession after scored baskets.
Each basket is worth 2 points, except for 3-point shots (3 pts) and foul shots (1 pt).
Time and Scoring
Regulation: The game consists of one 15 minute period with a running clock. The clock will stop for timeouts and injuries.
Winning Condition: The first team to reach 21 points instantly wins the game, regardless of the time remaining. If the clock runs out before 21 points are reached, the team with the higher score wins. Pool play games may end in a tie.
Playoff Overtime: If the game is tied at the end of a playoff game, play goes to a 2-minute "sudden victory" overtime. The first team to score in overtime wins.
Fouls and Free Throws
Team Fouls: Fouls are tracked per team rather than individually. Players cannot foul out of the game.
Shooting Fouls: A shooting foul results in 1 free throw.
Penalty Situations: When a team commits 7 fouls, the opposing team is awarded 2 free throws. On the 10th foul and beyond, the opponent receives 2 free throws plus ball possession.
Substitutions
Substitutions can be made during any dead-ball situation without notifying the referee or scoretable, simply by "tagging" the player as they sub in and out from the bench. Coaching by assigned parent. Coaching off the court is generally not permitted.
Teams are awarded one 30 second time out per game. In playoffs, if it goes to overtime an additional 30 second time out is allowed.
GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME!
-Teams must be at their court at the scheduled time, even if games are running behind.
-All games must start with at least 3 players on each team. Any number (2 or 1) may complete a game.
Conduct
The BWGYBA Board reserves the right to disqualify any team for infractions of
the following policies:
1. Use of illegal players – The 4 players listed on the roster at the start of the
tournament are the only ones eligible to participate on that team.
2. Unnecessary roughness – Disqualifications are left to the discretion of the
officials. However, the director(s) reserves the right to penalize teams and
individuals as well.
Fun, sportsmanship and friendly competition are the focus of this event.
Unsportsmanlike conduct, use of profanity, obscene behavior or abusive actions
towards officials or opponents will not be tolerated, and will result in expulsion from
the tournament.
Forfeit/Withdrawal
Please notify the Tournament Director immediately if you are going to forfeit
a game or withdraw from the tournament.
Summer League Rules
Game Rules:
All Divisions: (2) 20 minutes half’s with a running clock. Clock stops on two shot fouls. We will substitute players every 5 minutes or as needed. All players MUST have equal playing time.
No overtime period for any division
Zone OR Man/Man defense is acceptable
Beginner Division:
Defense must stay within the 3 point line arc for 10 seconds to give the player time to make a pass. The referee will monitor this. No press at all during the game.
Intermediate Division:
No press in the first half of the game
Advanced Division:
No limit on press unless you are leading by 10 points
Call ups: If you do not have enough players for your game, you can only use a call up from the lower league or a player approved by the BWGYBA
General Rules
All players MUST have equal playing time- NO MATTER WHAT! The referee will stop play half way through each quarter for full substitution of all five players. If you do not have a ten player roster you substitute the maximum players and use a player currently on the floor BUT the same player cannot remain in the game again until all players had the chance to play a full quarter. NO EXCEPTIONS-this will be monitored.
We take pride in seeing that all players are treated equal no matter what their experience or strength. This gives the recreational players a chance to play competitively against experienced players. In the past, the substitution rule has been violated and it causes a lot of problems with the players and parents who signed up their child knowing our rule for equal playing time in this league.
The teams are comprised of experienced & recreational players. It is your job as a coach to find a substitution rotation that works for your team. Just remember no substitutions are allowed except for ½ of the quarter or injury. This allows all players equal playing time.
This league is meant to be FUN for all. Poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated from the players, coaches, parents or any spectators.
